... Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 11 am Sunday to 5 am
PDT Monday...

The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for the northern Sierra Nevada above 6000
feet... which is in effect from 11 am Sunday to 5 am PDT Monday.

* Main impact... wet and slick roads due to rain, snow, and small
hail

* timing... precipitation begins late Sunday morning with snow
beginning to accumulate Sunday afternoon and overnight

* locations... Sierra Nevada 6000 feet and above

* snow accumulations... up to 3 inches over Sierra Nevada passes
and 3 to 5 inches over Lassen park

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow
will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow
covered roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while
driving.

... Significant cooling into the weekend with a threat of
precipitation Sunday into early Monday...

Impacts: wet slick roads Sunday into early Monday
isolated thunderstorms possible Sunday
periods of gusty wind with increased fire threat
         today especially over higher terrain
         few inches of snow accumulation possible at pass
         levels Sunday into Monday

Significant cooling trend expected into the weekend with periods
of gusty wind as a cold low pressure system from the Gulf of Alaska
approaches and moves through. By Sunday, high temperatures are
forecast to be 15 to 25 degrees below normal with 60s in the
Central Valley and mainly 40s and 50s for the mountains and
foothills. New record lowest high temperatures are possible
Sunday. In addition, forecast models are continuing to show
widespread showers Sunday as the low moves onshore. Given the
prolonged dry period, wet roads will be slick. Isolated
thunderstorms will also be possible in the Central Valley and
foothills Sunday afternoon. Snow levels are forecast to lower to
pass levels Sunday with a few inches of accumulation possible.
Decreasing showers expected on Monday.
