Areal Flood Warning
Issued: 11:15 AM MST Feb. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Pocatello has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
rain and snowmelt in...
southeastern Blaine County in central Idaho...
Lincoln County in south central Idaho...
Minidoka County in south central Idaho...

* until 1115 am MST Monday

* emergency management officials continue to report flooding in
central and southern Minidoka County, extreme southern Blaine
County, and nearly all of Lincoln County. More snow is expected,
and temperatures will remain below freezing through at least
Sunday, but flooding conditions will continue to persist for
several more days.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Burley, Rupert, Heyburn, Shoshone, Paul, Richfield, Minidoka,
Dietrich, Acequia, Shoshone ice caves, Bear Trap Airport, Kimama
and Laidlaw Corrals Airport.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All
interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.

The National Weather Service in Pocatello has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
snowmelt in...
southwestern Cassia County in southeastern Idaho...

* until 1100 am MST Monday

* local law officials reported continued low land flooding along
Goose Creek leading into Oakley Reservoir. Several bridges have
washed out as well. Though cooler temperatures are expected,
continued snow melt is likely especially with several inches of
snow in the forecast. Snow will start this evening through
Thursday. Temperatures will gradually start to rise Saturday and
daytime temperatures will approach the 40s by Monday.

Oakley Reservoir.


Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are many low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate Route.

interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.

... The next round of snow and wind to make potentially difficult
travel for the Monday commute...

A storm system will begin to spread snow showers across the
Sawtooths, central mountains and Continental Divide region by
Sunday afternoon, with snow showers beginning across the
remainder of se Idaho Sunday night. In addition to the falling
snow, SW winds will become breezy Sunday into Monday, resulting
in areas of blowing snow. The combination of new snow and blowing
snow may result in snowy and icy surfaces Monday, potentially
producing hazardous driving conditions for the commute. You may
consider altering your plans to allow for extra time to reach your
destination Monday. Stay tuned for future forecast updates as we
continue to refine the forecast and resultant impacts as the
system approaches.
