My husband and I were visiting my parents in Birmingham, Alabama. We decided to take a day trip to Tuscaloosa to see the damage from the April 27 tornado. It was a sight that I will never forget. Blocks and blocks of flattened houses and stores. This area has not been touched in 2 months. It was so moving that I started to cry thinking of all these poor people.

Wow! Nice capture of this tragic event. It's much worse being on site than seeing it on the television.

Heartbreaking scene. I saw the devastation in the 9th ward of New Orleans, and a few years later saw a few of the homes that Brad Pitt's organization had built. Some homeowners had moved in & were thrilled to be back. Hopefully, some philanthropist might challenge architects around the world to figure out what kind of housing might withstand a fierce tornado and rebuild in Tuscaloosa. In the meantime, a clean-up and a Memorial would be a good idea and show some sympathy for the losses of these residents.

Well deserved AC - tragic shot. Once the disaster passes the press ignore it and we forget it. The locals don't!

Such a tragic situation. So reminiscent of Hurricane Andrew down here, though I believe these tornadoes were even more devastating. A very moving photo.

Your empathy for those folks is totally justified. Nature doesn't care. It is one of those things that no can do anything about, except pay attention to any warning signs.

Congratulations on the AC and a fine job of showing us what can happen in the blink of an eye.

Linda, crying is exactly what I did as I viewed the damage here in Mass. It's so powerful and so devastating to look at such utter destruction. I cried when I saw clothing hanging from trees and children's toys all over. Houses left with just the foundation and knowing that someone was killed in a house I looked at. Just one of the most powerful experiences of my life. I am very blessed that the tornado lifted before it got to my house. It's very humbling.
