Areal Flood Warning
Statement as of 12:26 PM AKDT op 23 mei 2015

... A Flood Warning remains in effect until 415 PM akdt Sunday for
the Dalton Highway from milepost 394 to deadhorse...

The northern portion of the Dalton Highway continues to experience
flooding due to snowmelt and ice in the Main Channel.

A portion of the flow from The Sag river continues to over top the
Dalton Highway near milepost 394 and flows northward along the west
side of the Highway towards the DeadHorse Airport. Water is flowing
east back into the Main Channel through breaches in the Dalton
Highway just south of the Airport.

Observer reports from Friday and river gage data indicate that water
levels on the lower sag river have slowly fallen since Wednesday.
Exposed sand bars and stranded ice were observed along the Lower
Reach of the river yesterday. Areas of grounded ice still remain in
the Main Channel north of Dalton Highway milepost 394.

Flooding will continue over the next several days with water levels
expected to fall slowly as snowmelt tapers and ice within the Main
Channel melts.

For the latest Road conditions please check the Alaska Department
of Transportation website: dot.Alaska.Gov/nreg/Dalton-updates.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
However... all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.

... The Flood Advisory for melting snow remains in effect until 230 PM
akdt Monday for the Colville river near Colville Village...

Corrected...

High water from melting snow runoff is causing flooding along the
Colville river near Colville Village. An ice jam upriver from
Colville Village released late last night resulting in widespread
flooding of Colville Village. A run of sheet ice was also pushed up
onto the island during this ice jam release.

As of this morning water levels have receded about one foot from the
peak late last night and sheet ice remains in the Main Channel
adjacent to Colville Village.

Upstream near Nuiqsut water levels have gradually dropped since
Thursday and the Main Channel is mostly clear of ice.

This flooding will remain over sparsely populated areas of central
central Beaufort Sea coast.
