Nowcast | as of 6:10 am EDT on August 30, 2015

A Flood Watch is in effect for all east central Florida counties today into Monday. The local atmosphere is extremely moist and poised to produce additional heavy rain once again. Event totals may reach up to 5 to 6 inches in spots within areas of excessive rain. In fact...generous rains yesterday over the Shingle Creek basin in southwest Orange and northwest Osceola counties have swelled water levels toward action stage there. The basin will need to be monitored closely today for additional heavy rain to move across it. If so... residents need to be ready to act quickly if flood warnings are issued. This is true for many other places too...especially since some areas have already received recent rains that have saturated the ground conditions. Never drive through places where water of unknown depth covers the Road. This morning...the best chances for locally heavy rain and strong wind gusts will be along the space and Treasure coasts as maritime showers and storms move onshore at 25 mph. Isolated waterspouts will also be possible today along with Stout wind gusts. Additional details...including graphics are available online at: http://www.Srh.NOAA.Gov/mlb/blog.Php

Areal Flood Watch
Statement as of 4:55 AM EDT op 30 augustus 2015

... Flood Watch remains in effect through Monday evening...

The Flood Watch continues for

* east central Florida including...
Brevard... Indian River... Lake... Martin... Okeechobee...
Orange... Osceola... Seminole... St. Lucie... and Volusia County.

* Through Monday evening

* deep tropical moisture over the region combined with additional
tropical moisture from the remnants of Erika moving over the
Florida Straits and the west half of Cuba will create a threat
for very heavy rainfall across east central Florida through
Monday. Rainfall between 2 to 3 inches will be common with
local amounts between 3 and 5 inches possible.

* Heavy rain may create significant flooding of streets... urban
areas... and low lying flood prone areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
