The 'Ballet Of Light', formally known as artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer's art project Vectorial Elevation, consists of 20 robotically controlled, 10,000-watt Zenon lights that have been installed at Vanier Park and Sunset Beach in Vancouver. Beginning on February 5, they will be lighting the sky over English Bay every night until dawn, right up to the last day of the 2010 Winter Olympics on February 28. The pattern of the lights changes every 10 seconds in response to geometric designs submitted from the public via the Internet. It is quite a sight but works best with low clouds like this evening. View with the Inukshuk at the southern end of English Bay Beach.
NEOhio is getting another 6-10 inches of snow. I decided to take advantage and shoot some pictures playing off the exiting daylight.

The clouds looked so defined in Black and White
Two inches deep in ice an oak leaf is covered by a single layer of tiny bubbles, seemingly sorted by size and arranged with geometric precision. You can just see the smallest bubbles continue under the blurry surface ones, covering the rest of the leaf. This is all above previous continuous ice, so it wasn't influenced from below. What an amazing world this is
Yesterday's sunrise. This is my first time to see an actual sun pillar develop. It appeared and disappeared in a span of less than five minutes!

The male redwing blackbirds have arrived in Northern Illinois and are staking out territories that they hope will be satisfactory for the females when they arrive in a week or so. This guy, bouncing around in the breeze between this mornings T/Storms and showers probably wishes he had come north just a little later this year.
Wintery wonder land No ice though, water is still to warm.

The sun dogs did just what they are named for.... they dogged the sun most of the afternoon. At a certain time in the afternoon the sun was encircled with the dogs still at large.

Sunset with a light snow falling and the most intense Sun Pillar I've ever seen coming down from the Sun. It was quite a sight! Taken from the overlook near Cripple Creek, CO.
