My Pic of the Morning
Posted by: clearlakemike, 6:24 PM GMT op 27 juni 2005 +0
CountryDreaming captured the hazy light so beautifully in her, Farmer's View. You can almost feel the sultry Tennesse Smoky Mountain summer morning. Always one step ahead of the developers or a famer's mower, CountryDreaming captures another dreamy moment before the awakening of another reality.

Welcome to California!!!

Welcome, kimmyjo221, to the Golden State and to "Fog Land" (Northern California)! kimmyjo221's photo, Mantle Piece, captures the beauty of sailboats on San Francisco Bay by the Golden Gate Bridge. And also the "natural airconditioner" (the fog, NOT smog) on a summer day in Nor Cal. kimmyjo221 also has an amusing story behind this photo as well.

In Memory of a Good Friend
Posted by: clearlakemike, 1:22 AM EDT on June 24, 2005 +0
In memory of "Murphy". Murphy, we are glad you are out of pain but we will miss you so much. Everyone of your friends at the San Francisco Flea Market and all your co-workers and customers at "work" miss you too. You were one of a kind. May you rest in peace.

What a tough year. My dear father passed away in February. A wonderful woman I knew for a long time passed away after a long battle with breast cancer in May. And now, on the first day of summer, our beloved friend "Murphy" was put to rest after the pain had become more than he or any of his many, many friends could bear any longer.

Life continues on for those of us still in this world but it will never be quite the same. Hopefully, sometime we will all meet again in some other place. If not, then at least we will all one day be at peace together.

American Dream
Posted by: clearlakemike, +0
I was told by svetslike, Grafiti, was a photo of the urban graffiti made by two young Serbian boys dreaming of going to America. From the looks of it, it looks like they are dreaming the Southern California dream. svetslike and I are observers of graffiti. We both consider it an outdoor art form and an expression from urban areas. I personally don't condone it, but none the less, graffiti is a familiar phenomenon in a lot of cities.

Sometimes the level of talent is quite high. I have been observing it since the 1970's (that dates me doesn't it?, lol) since my younger days in New York. Back then there was incredible rolling "art show" of graffiti on the New York subways.

More about the NYC subway car graffiti at http://www.upress.state.ms.us/aerosolkingdom/f_piece.html

Graffiti, to me, are the 20th and 21st century petroglyphs. Although, like a lot of things in the last two centuries, whether it will stand the test of time remains to be seen.

Uneasy Dreams?
Posted by: clearlakemike, 11:22 PM EDT on June 18, 2005 +0
svetslike, a Serbian photographer, captures a lot of emotion in this arresting photograph, Mestimicno. The light on the momument perhaps a metaphor for hope and the dark clouds behind symbolic of passing turbulence? The off balance horizon imparts to me an anxiousness or perhaps a world that is not yet back in balance.

A Very Talented Southern California Photographer
Posted by: clearlakemike, +0
Pezman has captured the beauty and the colors of the southern Big Sur coast in his Big Sur Emerald Green so magnificently. I occasionaly go camping along the coast near Gorda and it is one of my favorite places. He has also captured many other beautiful Southland and Central Coast images in his WU gallery that are the essence of Southern and Central California land and seascape. As a former resident of So Cal and still a regular visitor I get to enjoy seeing those beautiful southland scenes again more often through his very talented eyes.

Welcome, June 14, 2005
Posted by: clearlakemike, 2:37 PM PDT on June 14, 2005 +1
Many WU members have expressed their love for their corner of the world. My home, Northern California, is my paradise.

Northern California is rich in geographic, geological, climate and human diversity. Since prehistoric times, the Gold Rush era in the 19th century to the present, people from all over the world have migrated to Northern California in search of a dream for a better life. From the mild mediterranean coast to the alpine mountains there is an array of natural and manmade wonders (all accessible within a four hour drive on one of the planet’s most advanced highway systems.) Brilliant, abundant sunshine illuminates the way for most of the year across multiple microclimates.

Visionaries from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries have preserved vast areas of old growth redwoods (that were seedlings around the time of Christ,) coastlines, undeveloped hillsides and countryside. Other visionaries have and continue to work for equal rights and respect for all of Northern California’s people.

Thank you for sharing your neighborhoods and welcome to mine!
