I just read that. It's a good reference.
Phrases from this list that I use all the time:
positive trend
positive feedback
theory
uncertainty
anomaly
Really any time we use "positive" it could be misinterpreted.
I have found something that I feel is important but, I have delayed commenting about it because I felt like it might cause problems.
I am working on a personal research project and one set of data I am using is the NASA data page of sunspot areas. Link I have found an error on this data page. Starting on Jan. 1, 1977 and continuing until the present.
I would like to play teacher and make this a homework assignment for anyone who is interested. I will not mention the error now but I will explain it tomorrow. Please don't ban me before I explain it.
Thanks
Jesse
What I see in the data beginning in 1977 is that all the numbers can be evenly divided by 7. If you go back prior to 1977, this is not the case.
Now, my thoughts on what happened. The 70's I think, was the beginning of the computer era. It looks like '77 was when they started using a computer to compile the sunspot data. I have a very limited knowledge about programming, but I understand the binary number system quite well. I don't know how they are getting all the numbers to come out with a base 7, but it looks like a programming problem to me. At a low sunspot activity level this could be a rather large error.
OK, that's my 2 cents worth. back to lurking mode.

Hey Jesse,
Check out this page with the data explanation. It looks like in 1977, they changed data sources. When they did this, they had to apply a correction factor to the data of x1.4. This might solve your mystery.
When I first started this project, toward the end of '09, I did a lot of on-line research. I had seen this 1.4x correction at that time, but I had forgotten about it.
Thanks again
Jesse
You are on the wrong blog. You need to go down 3 blogs and turn right. Go down another 2 blogs and turn left. The blog you want is the 3rd blog on the left. Ask for Spam Guy.
