Just like right now. We have severe storms to our north that are moving south. I am watching my area on radar. I use this radar so often. I hope we will not lose it.
First, why would TWC want Wunderground? It must be active and a good investment. It is not the maps that make it active. It is not entirely the maps and the IR, Radar, etc. that bring people here. It seems sensible and logical that they would want to keep the blogs -- and perhaps even the administration of everything -- the same.
If Dr. Master et al left here, then I think it would be a sorrowful thing, because the actual weather PEOPLE, are and have always been the heart of this site, and it has been run with integrity and stellar moderation, without sacrificing their humanity. Then there are the rest of us, that provide the activity -- the blogs, photos and real-time weather discussion -- that translates into activity and advertizing.
From a member point-of-view, it's very inexpensive to be here. That would suggest to me that there are a LOT of people who come to the site without paying a membership, and they are important, because of the advertising which probably pays the bills. Wunderground seems a sound investment.
That's all my verbose way of casting my hope and energy out there to the NewWU owners that they don't forget their following nor discontinue the existing staff (not implying that they would).
Dr. Masters says " The Weather Channel is committed to keeping the Weather Underground brand and the web site in its current form." I believe him. He also says that he will keep his blog here.
I hope.
We will now be called Weather Underground, LLC, and will maintain the wunderground.com web site as it is.
Take a nice, deep, breath and let's see what happens. My hunch is that the biggest change will be that Jeff gets to beat the AGW drum on TWC. ;)
Thing is, when DocM started answering questions over there, sounded like a lot of things that concern wu members "have not been discussed" and remain uncertain.
One thing certain, this is a monumental change.
Here's the MarketWatch story on the merger.
I probably won't be around too much until after our vacation, so if anything changes, maybe it will be then.
I have a lot going on this week with my mom's 85th birthday, company and getting ready for a camping trip. I'll catch up with you all when I get home (or maybe before!).
Have a Happy Fourth if I don't see you!
Crab and Shore thanks for the good words. I just hope you are right. I just have seen these kind of promises go down the drain when the deal is complete. I guess why mess with something that is so successful. Shore that was really such a nice article. Thank you for posting it.
Karen congratulations to your momma. A life well lived. Look forward to your Tahoe pictures. It is fun seeing how the boys have grown from year to year. As far as not being here for a while we all understand. Just have lots of fun.
Keeper thank you so much for the beautiful music. It sure has lots of meaning to all of us.

Hope it is a good day for you :)
Wanted to drop by and wish you and yours A VERY SAFE & HAPPY 4TH OF JULY! Hopefully, with the sale of Wunderground to "The Weather Channel", the higher ups won't change or eliminate the blogs on this website. I'd be lost without the abililty to catch up with our wonderfully supportive group of WU friends!
Cal I posted that same article on FB this morning.
