Friday morning I arrange for a climatologist to appear on a radio breakfast show. Her subject - the increase over more than 80 years of records of increasing frequency of heavy rain events in Northern England. www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12151866 (And one record going back to 1745 - that's the year Bonnie Prince Charlie marched on London at the head of a Highland army!!)
Svere weather warnings swiftly followed. Between 2100 that night and around 1200 on Sunday, this county averaged more than 6 inches of rain - the sort of event that is now at least once most years, and used to be once every several years.
Couldn't have planned it better myself.
