Hi from the Oregon Coast

Hi, folks!

A thread of spider-silk is strung from one of the herbs in the railing planter to the fuchsia basket, sunlight gleaming on it. The sun is shining and the sky is a brilliant blue with puffy white bits and high streaky bits of cloud. It’s only 50, but it’s supposed to get into the high 60’s today.

There’s a towhee in the railing planter pecking at something and sparrows on the feeder.

We’re going to get outside for a little this morning. I have some things that Tempus needs to help me with. There are roses that I can’t reach under the alder and some rugosas to pull around the artichoke. Yesterday he set up the compost ring, but I need a few more places spaded up. I’m hoping we’re going to spend a good productive ½ hour or so before we head to the shop.

Yesterday’s picture of the deer in our yard went up here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.11069359 69313.13175.1704231146&type=3&l=66354e659c I don’t know if the link will work for everyone.

I dropped Tempus at the shop yesterday morning and then came back up to the house. He spent most of the day sorting papers. I spent most of it sorting Café Press after I got the Green Screen background done for Beachcomber’s. I did take a hap in the early afternoon, knowing that I had to be rested for the weekend…and then I slept for almost 9 hours last night. Hmm….

In the late afternoon I started spending time in the garden. I harvested buttercups, calendula, cinquefoil, a fair amount of yarrow (by mistake) and an odd plant that I’m going to look up when I get to the shop. It looks a lot like clover, but it vines, somehow….

Today we’re starting to do the green screens. Marius is going to be training Tempus and Willow on his techniques. I have to print some flyers and then those can go to Newport and Yachats as well as Waldport. I’ll get a picture up once we have one.

The festivities begin tonight. Here’s the schedule:

Noon-6pm – Souvenir Green Screen Portraits, Ancient Light
7-11pm, Live Music & Open Air Dance at the Salty Dawg
7-10pm, Karaoke Contest at the Moose Lodge
9-10pm, Bonfire behind the Interpretive Center

The shop opens at 10 today. Summer hours, 10am-7pm, Wednesday through Monday. If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open!

Love & Light,
Anja

Today
The Moon is a waning crescent. Waning Moon Magick - From the Full Moon to the New is a time for study, meditation, and magic designed to banish harmful energies and habits, for ridding oneself of addictions, illness or negativity. Hecate’s Brooch – 3-5 days before New Moon – Best time for Releasing Rituals. It’s the last few days before the new moon, the time of Hecate’s Brooch. This is the time that if you’re going to throw something out, or sweep the floors, or take stuff to Good Will, Do it! Rid yourself of negativity and begin the letting go process. Phase ends at 8:02pm on Sunday.

With summer beginning in just five days, Scorpius is already rearing up in the southeast at nightfall. Its brightest star is orange-red Antares. The "outrigger" stars of Antares are just below and upper right of it. Farther upper right is the row of stars marking Scorpius's head. This is a grand area to explore with a sky atlas and binoculars.
Mercury (about magnitude –0.8) is very low in the west-northwest about 30 or 40 minutes after sundown. Don't confuse it with Capella well to its upper right, in the northwest.

Celtic tree month of Duir Oak - Jun 10 - Jul 7 - The oak of myth and legend is the common oak (Quercus robur L.). It is sometimes called the great oak, which is a translation of its Latin name (robur is the root of the English word "robust"). It grows with ash and beech in the lowland forests, and can reach a height of 150 feet and age of 800 years. Along with ashes, oaks were heavily logged throughout recent millennia, so that the remaining giant oaks in many parts of Europe are but a remnant of forests past. Like most other central and northern European trees, common oaks are deciduous, losing their leaves before Samhain and growing new leaves in the spring so that the trees are fully clothed by Bealltaine. Common oaks are occasionally cultivated in North America, as are the similar native white oak, valley oak, and Oregon oak. Oaks are members of the Beech family (Fagaceae). Curtis Clark

Each day is a brand new day where I have the power to create and design what's possible! - Hanns-Oskar Porr
Everyone discusses my art and pretends to understand, as if it were necessary to understand, when it is simply necessary to love. - Claude Monet (1840-1926) French landscape painter
Forgiveness means letting go of the past. - Gerald Jampolsky
Friendship is a pretty full-time occupation if you really are friendly with somebody. You can't have too many friends because then you're just not really friends. - Truman Capote (1924-1984) US writer

Song Of Gratitude

Thank you Sun for shining,
Thank you light of day,
Thank you night for falling,
And stars that come our way,
Thank you mighty splendor
That seasons bring to share
Thank you beauty shining
For us everywhere.

Thank you little children
That keep us young at heart,
Thank you cycles circling
That bring us each new start,
Thank you lovely flowers
And thank you fertile seeds,
Thank you gifts that come to us
In answer to our needs.

Time and tide flow onward,
Life brings joy and pain--
Bright bouquets of memory,
Things we can't explain
As our hearts are opened
We find how many care,
The world becomes a garden,
With much for all to share.

Thank you blessed garden,
Thank you useful space
Thank you work that must be done,
And thank you precious shade,
Thank you tuneful Robin
Singing in the tree,
Thank you Beauty shining
Everywhere to see.

Magick – Litha
Stangs
Stangs are less commonly used forms of staves. Basically, it is a two-pronged staff (see illustration below). The easiest way to find one is to get one that has fallen off of a tree. You can also fashion the prong from papier-mâché, or commission a woodworker or metal smith to make one for you, if you have the means. The Stang is ancient Roman in origin, and was used to represent the two-faced god Janus, for whom the month of January is named. His two faces looked simultaneously into the past and future. Some traditions use stangs to mark the ritual entry and exit point of a magick circle, and see it as a portal between the physical world and the world of spirit. Decorate the stang in the same way you would a staff. You may also use it for the same purposes as a staff.

Subject: [Hearth_Witch] Midsummer Door Ornaments
Midsummer Door Ornaments
Items Needed:
• Small broom, about 1' by 8"
• Plastic seasonal flowers ~ {Roses, Wildflowers}
• 3 different colours of ribbon, about 12"-16" long
• Some thin wire ~ {strip garbage bag twist-ties of their paper
coats}
• Ornament oriented to the sabbat
• Wire Cutters
• Scissors
Directions: (Note, if doing this project with children, please watch the scissors and wire cutters) Take the wire cutters and cut the flower stems to a height that is workable. With the wire, begin tying into them the seasonal flowers and the berries at the base of the broom nearest where the bristles begin. Make sure the leaves of the flowers lie flat against the bristles. This will be a great background for the colour of the flowers to contrast against.
Take the berries and the fruit and lay them between the flowers and then tie them of with the wire. As soon as all of that is in, pick out your favourite Midsummer ornament.
Take the ribbon and tie in a bow or a knot, either will do, around the wire. Let some of the extra drape around and under the broom.
When you want to hang this, simply take a bit of wire and string it through the top of the broom handle and nail it to the door, hang it in a window or wherever you prefer. To hang it with the bristles pointing upwards, weave the wire up through the bristles and then twist it a few times for some extra strength.

Wedding Gift Basket - (For Litha) - http://members.aol.com/ivycleartoes/wedding.html
Small basket
Seashells
Craft miniatures of birds and butterflies
False flowers and fruits
Bells
Any other natural wedding gift type items you can think of
1. Simply place all items aesthetically inside the basket, perhaps using it as a decoration for inside your feather wreath if you made one.
2. It is very tasteful to wind white flower garlands around the handle of the basket, and to perhaps even paint it yourself or, if you are talented in that area, to weave your own basket.

To use this in a ritual, every item to be placed in the basket must have some kind of symbolic meaning. You can solemnly put each item in and simultaneously make a wish for the union of the deities, and pray for Their happiness; also it can be used as a parallel for any relationships in your life that you wish to succeed.

Silliness - GCF: Accepting Authority
A woman in our office was promoted to supervisor and some of the older male workers were having difficulty accepting her authority.
While she instructed one such subordinate, he interrupted with, "Young lady, I'm old enough to be your father."
"And," she replied, "I'm old enough to be your supervisor."
