Hi from the Oregon Coast

Daily Stuff 5-18-12 Mt St Helens Day

Hi, folks!

The sunshine is incredibly beautiful this morning. I’ve been spending far too much time looking out the window. There’s some cloud that dims it every so often, but doesn’t seem to put it out. I want to get into the garden for a bit this morning on the way to the shop.

There are little birds on the feeder this morning, mostly chickadees and house sparrows, and Tempus put new liquid in the hummingbird feeder, too.

Around 10am yesterday I told Tempus that I was sleepy and going to lie down for a bit. Apparently he headed down to the shop on his bike and got everything started. I woke at 1:30! It didn’t leave me enough time to do anything other than grab a quick bath, pack up the computer, do a few minutes of harvesting (woodruff and calendula) and head for the shop. I printed a couple more headers that I set up during the morning after the newsletter went out and then folks started arriving for the tea.

No one was there for class. Hmm… I wanted to get this class done with before Beltane just so this didn’t happen, but we’ve only got two or three class sessions to go….

So we headed home a little earlier than usual for a Thursday, which was good because I was already wiped out again. I fell asleep right after supper and couldn’t drag myself out this morning until past 8:15. I guess it’s leftovers from being sick, but wow… I never sleep that much in the springtime!

So today we’re heading in to the shop at the usual time. We’re working on re-stocking the herb wall. I want to try to pull out some of the yard sale stuff to get pictures. I have more herbs to process that have finished drying…and I’m trying to decide if I should throw the comfrey root in the dehydrator, because after two months it’s still not dry….some of the stuff from last fall still isn’t!!!!! We also need to get in to do work on inventorying some of the prints that haven’t been done in a while. Lots to do! …and I have some more woodruff, calendula, comfrey, lungwort, etc. to harvest before we head out.

Interesting article here: http://www.patheos.com/blogs/bishopinthegrove/arch ives/looking-a-little-closer-at-pagan-leaders-cler gy-and-teachers/ Any comments?

There’s a solar eclipse coming up on Sunday. The total eclipse is visible as close as Port Orford!!!! We’re only going to see a partial, but it oughta be spectacular. http://www.space.com/15657-annular-solar-eclipse-o ccurs-may20.html Please, be smart and do not look at the sun. You can use binoculars or a telescope to project the images onto a white surface. Better yet… punch a bunch of holes in heavy paper and look at the shadow of the sun shining through it onto the ground. That one’s weird…. It’s been pointed out that welder’s goggles will work, but please don’t try to use sunglasses. Tempus had a blank spot on his retina for about 1 ½ years from just a slip.

…and they’re playing the Blue Danube Waltz on AllClassical.org… this is going to be a good day!

The shop opens at 11am. Spring hours, 11am-7pm, Thursday through Monday. If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open!

Love & Light,
Anja

Today
The Moon is a waning crescent. Waning Moon Magick - From the Full Moon to the New is a time for study, meditation, and magic designed to banish harmful energies and habits, for ridding oneself of addictions, illness or negativity. Hecate’s Brooch – 3-5 days before New Moon – Best time for Releasing Rituals. It’s the last few days before the new moon, the time of Hecate’s Brooch. This is the time that if you’re going to throw something out, or sweep the floors, or take stuff to Good Will, do it! Rid yourself of negativity and begin the letting go process.
Phase ends on Saturday at 4:47am.

Arcturus is the brightest star high in the southeast these evenings. It's the leading light of the constellation Bootes, the Herdsman. The main stars of Bootes form a narrow, bent kite shape extending left of Arcturus, nearly three fists at arm's length long. Or maybe the kite is a pointy-toed shoe, with Arcturus the tip of the toe.
Saturn (magnitude +0.4, in Virgo) shines in the southeast in twilight and highest in the south around 11 p.m. The star 5° to Saturn's lower right in the evening is Spica, slightly fainter and bluer.

Celtic tree month Huath Hawthorn May 13 - Jun 9 - I am fair among flowers - Color: Purple - Class: Peasant - Letter: H - Meaning: Being held back for a period of time - Hawthorn - Like willows, hawthorns have many species in Europe, and they are not always easy to tell apart. All are thorny shrubs in the Rose family (Rosaceae), and most have whitish or pinkish flowers. The common hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna Jacq.) and midland hawthorn (Crataegus laevigata (Poiret) DC.) are both widespread. They are common in abandoned fields and along the edges of forests. Both are cultivated in North America, as are several native and Asiatic hawthorns. Curtis Clark

THE AWESOME AMAZON

I'm a daughter of ice giants,
And an amazon queen;
I carry spears and axes
And am beautiful and lean.

I have many warrior subjects,
And they look at me in awe;
For I'm talented and awesome,
And haven't any flaw.

My horse can gallop rapid miles
At a time, you'll see;
In the world there's no one else
Quite as great as me!

I love to fight and roar and kill
And bite and claw and hack;
And if you believe all that,
I have some flying pigs out back! - © Copyright 09/12/05, Beth Johnson (Mystic Amazon)

Magick – Slow down for three minutes to read this. It is so worth it. Touching words from the mouth of babes.

What does Love mean?

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, "What does love mean?"

The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think :

"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love." Rebecca- age 8
_____

"When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth." Billy - age 4 (I love this one)
_____

"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other." Karl - age 5
_____

"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs." Chrissy - age 6
___

"Love is what makes you smile when you're tired." Terri - age 4
_____

"Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK." Danny - age 7
_____

"Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss" Emily - age 8
_____

"Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen." Bobby - age 7 (Wow!)
_____

"If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate," Nikka - age 6 (we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet)
_____

"Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday." Noelle - age 7
_____

"Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well." Tommy - age 6
_____

"Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken." Elaine-age 5
_____

"Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford." Chris - age 7
_____

"Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day." Mary Ann - age 4
_____

"I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones." Lauren - age 4
_____

"When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you." (what an image) Karen - age 7
_____

"Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross." Mark - age 6
_____

"You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget." Jessica - age 8
_____

And the final one -- Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge.

The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.

The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.

Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there.

When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, "Nothing, I just helped him cry"

I now have bronchitis as well as the ongoing infection - see Dr again on Monday - This is probably the only request for help/healing I have ever made - but I just can't seem to kick this on my own. Silliness – GCF: Semi-Pro Baseball

John was never shy about reminding people that he played semi-pro baseball.

"My teammates used to call me James Bond," he was telling his friends. "I had all sorts of tricks to confuse the opposition."

"That and he batted .007," his wife added.
