...Compiled information about the 10 day cold snap that ended on Friday November 21st...

Several records were set during this period at South Bend and Fort Wayne including record lows... record coldest highs...record consecutive days at or below freezing at South Bend in November...and a daily record snowfall record at South Bend.

A record low temperature of 9 degrees was set at Fort Wayne on Tuesday November 18th. This broke the old record of 10 set in 1959.

A record low temperature of 9 degrees was also set at Fort Wayne on Friday November 21st. This broke the previous record of 11 set in 1964.

A record cold high temperature of 18 degrees was set at South Bend on November 18th. This broke the old record of 26 set in 1951. A record cold high was also set on this date at ft Wayne of 17 degrees which broke the old record of 24 set in 1903.

South Bend Airport recorded high temperatures at or below freezing for 9 consecutive days from November 13th through November 21st. This is the longest streak on record at South Bend during the month of November. The previous longest streaks were 5 days ending 11/27/1898 and 11/14/1996.

A record snowfall of 12.3 inches was set at South Bend for November 13th. This broke the old record of 4.7 inches set in 1974. This total ranks as the 4th highest daily snowfall total for the South Bend area on record for the month of November. The highest daily snowfall record stands at 18.0 inches set on November 2nd 1911.

The period November 12th through November 21st this year was also the coldest period on record so early in the season at South Bend with an average temperature of 23.1 degrees. This broke the previous 10 day period average temperature of 26.3 from November 12th to November 21st set in 1959. This record was reflected at Fort Wayne where the 10 day average temperature during the same period as South Bend was 23.9 degrees and broke the old record of 27.3 set in 1991 from November 2 to November 11.
